"Mother Earth"  2016  Oil / Acrylic / Ink

is a painting depicting my own Mother (Vivian Garner-Cottrell) in her youth, dressed in her regalia and is my interpretation of what our Mother Earth would appear to us in human form. Her bright vibrant colors represent many things seen all over our world. The warm core of the Earth can be seen in her face and the Oranges used, as well as the cool Green of the grass and trees. The Violets seen in the mountain ranges during the day and the canyons during the evenings. The rich Browns of our soil and the deep Blues of our streams, rivers and oceans help compliment the vibrant Yellows of the plains. Vivian Garner-Cottrell is a Master Craftsman in Basketry and a Treasure of the Cherokee Nation.
