"Cherokee Treasure"  2016   Oil / Acrylic / Ink

Cherokee Treasure is a painting I created of my late Grandmother Betty Scraper-Garner who is a Cherokee National Treasure and Master Craftsman in the art of Basketry. I have so many fond memories of her and seeing her always weaving her baskets with my Mom. She always encouraged me to be creative and to play. I learned how to weave baskets when I was much younger, BUT my baskets always tended to lean and roll off the table, so I started focussing on what I could do with a pencil. I can still hear voice and I always think about her some time during every one of my paintings.
